Direct Access Course

If you wish to have a full unrestricted licence without having to comply with the 33BHP probation period and you are over 21 then you can take the Direct Access Scheme. This means you take the exact same motorcycle test as the restricted licence except using a larger machine. To qualify the machine power must exceed 47BHP.

We use the Kawasaki ER5 and it produces 55BHP and is easy to learn on. It has an upright riding position which makes it easier for learners to complete the U-turn exercise. In our opinion it is harder for learners to use the Suzuki GS500 that other schools use as the handlebars are lower down (more sports bike style) and the Honda CB500 is heavier than the ER5 (making slow control harder). The Yamaha Diversion XJ600 is also heavier than the ER5 (again slow control harder).

With the DAS course you must first complete CBT then pass the motorcycle theory test before attempting the practical test.
