Chris said: “I absolutely loved my time at Harley’s Rider Training. The level of service and instruction was superb and I was delighted because I was able to fit my training around my work commitments. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and did their best to accommodate my needs. I’m looking forward to joining them all on their regular Tuesday night ride outs.”

Budding motorcyclists are gearing up to sit the two-part test set to come into force on April 27, 2009 – so you’d better book now if you want a chance to throw away those L plates before the split test is introduced.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is pressing ahead with plans to reinvent the motorcycle testing regime – so from the end of next month all our candidates will face a double date with the driving examiner in order to gain their motorcycle licence.

We still have limited training places available before the test change!

At present, all our candidates face a single test event – with road riding skills and the manoeuvres such as the dreaded U-turn, Emergency Stop and Push in the Road exercise all closely monitored.

The new test will be completed in two modules from the newly-built Multi-Purpose Test Centre in Shieldhall – with the specified manoeuvres – some of which have to be conducted at specific speeds – being undertaken in Module 1 (This should take on average 22 minutes). As well as the existing exercises, candidates will now have to perform a swerve manouvre and show off their cornering skills.

When you turn up for your Module One test, the examiner will ask you to demonstrate your riding ability on a left-hand or right hand circuit.

Module One Test

At least two manouvres carried out at slow speed, including a slalom

At least two manouvre carried out at higher speed, of which one exercise should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) and one exercise avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)

At least two braking manouvre, including an emergency brake at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (approx. 32 mph)

Clicking on this link will take you to the DSA website to see the standard layout of the Mod 1 circuit.

http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Documents/MPTC/2009/MC_Manoeuvre_Diagram.pdf

All candidates who successfully pass Module 1 will be issued with a certificate which must be presented when they sit Module 2 – the Road Ride test!

This will incorporate the eyesight check, road safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding covering a variety of road and traffic conditions and will include normal stops, hill and angle starts.

As Scotland’s leading learner school, we at Harley’s Rider Training we are fully prepared to embrace the chances and will make sure all our training courses are redeveloped to incorporate the new challenges that the two part test involves – we already have both Module One and Module Two test slots available to book – so whether you’re able to train before or after we’ll help you throw away those L plates forever!
